Habana del Este

It is the largest municipality in the Havana province. It is located on the north coast, east of Havana Bay and includes a coastal strip approximately 42 kilometers long. It is the largest municipality with a land area of 144.9 km2. beach areas of the province include Bacuranao, Boca Ciega, Santa Maria and Guanabo. It has a population of 178,419 inhabitants. It has a population density of 1 231.3 per sq km.

Economic lines of the municipality are: livestock; construction; transport services; light industry and fishing.

In Guanabo oil is of a better quality than in other areas of the East. It’s light oil, primarily on Venetian beach where some wells are operated. There are four wells that are exploiting the methane gas that can be used in kitchens. Tourism is being developed and revamped and tourist facilities are being built.

Guanabacoa

The municipality has a land area of 127.4 km². Almost 80% of the territory is rural and most of the population is concentrated toward the western region. Located 10km east from the center of ciudad. Tiene has a population of 112,893 inhabitants, the town is less populated at 885.7 inhabitants/km². The iron and steel industry, represents the predominant weight in the local economy, followed by textiles and food factories. There are eight companies in the iron and steel industry. Meanwhile Geominera Union, with 12 entities, addresses the country’s mining production and offers various services. It also has 320 manufacturing facilities.

San Miguel del Padron

It has an area of 25.7 km² and a population of approximately 155,692 inhabitants, of whom 74,939 are men and 80,753 women. The population density amounts to 5,655 inhabitants per k ². It is the seventh municipality in the area. The municipality of San Miguel has some important industries: Ground TAINO Motors, Industrial Combined Juan Milian, Cement Assurance Company and Metal Container Company Luis Melian.

Diez de Octubre

Situated in the north central part of the province with a land area of 12.14 km². It has a population of 228,365 inhabitants and a population density of 18,873.1 inhabitants per km². Among its main products and services are: repair of refrigerators and railroad cars; production of slabs Siporex; cigarettes; spices; alcohol; fine biscuits and sausage meat processing.

Cerro

The municipality has a surface area of 10.3 km². It has a population of 132,667 inhabitants and a population density of 12,880.3 inhabitants per km². Industry is the economic weight of the Hill and its core manufacturing includes: brewery “Michael Oramas” (La Polar); Wine Factory “Outpost” (the old Coca-Cola); two productions of soaps and detergents; three pharmaceutical laboratories; Cigar Factory Orlando Nodarse (H. UPMANN) Bocoy Roner; Empresa Grafica; Frederick Engels “factory pistons”.

The territory also has the following Surgical Clinics: “10 de Octubre;” Surgical Clinic “Salvador Allende”; Pediatric Central Havana; Cerro and Pediatric Pneumology. The Institute of Latin American Stadium (baseball team), is famous for the quantity of national and international sporting events it hosts.

Marianao

Has an area of 21.3 km², and is bordered on the north by the beach, east by the Hill and Plaza of the Revolution, to the south and west by Asia House’s Lisa. It has a population of 135,639 inhabitants with a population density of 6 368.0 inhabitants per km². The best nightclub in Cuba and one of the most famous in the world is the Cabaret Tropicana, offering for over half a century, the best of Cuban dance music.

They is also the Higher Polytechnic Institute “Jose. A. Echevarria” (the largest of its kind in the country, designed and launched in the 50s, completed and expanded after the triumph of the Revolution), the Higher Pedagogical Institute “Enrique Jose Varona” (the main Pedagogical University of Cuba), Military Technical Institute “Jose Marti” and especially the large educational complex “Ciudad Escolar Libertad”, which covers an area of 2.6 square kilometers and comprises of two kindergartens, a concentrate of preschool, six elementary schools, three special schools – a of visually impaired school, one for children with autism and a mental developmental delay – three basic secondary schools and a polytechnic.

The Lisa

La Lisa is one of the western most municipalities in the province of Havana City and has an elongated configuration that is adjacent to the neighboring province of Havana. Its land area is 37.5 km². It has a population of 130,969 inhabitants and a population density of 3492.5 people/km². There are important health centers, known both nationally and internationally. The Center for Tropical Medicine Pedro Kouri (IPK), is also a renowned center on themes of exotic diseases. It has developed different diagnoses of diseases such as dengue and AIDS.

The “Finlay Institute, Center of Serum and Vaccine Research, were the institutions that developed the first effective vaccine against meningitis caused by meningococcus B, which has received several international awards.

The hospital “Frank Pais”, stands out for its innovative medical and scientific advances in this specialty, and their innovations in the medical industry. Some areas such as Alamar and Alberro have been built Soviet-style, making them appear not to be true ghettos and instead that of a typical Havana neighborhood. South of the city is Guanabacoa Cotorro that has created an agricultural-recreational belt with cultivated fields to satisfy the city’s population, existing in this area are theme parks such as Parque Lenin, equipped with Chinese technology from the last generation.
