Holguin parks

HolguinHolguin parks owe their origins to a system of squares in an urban layout.  Outside the center there is also a significant amount of parks, mainly located in the popular areas of Pueblo Nuevo, Vista Alegre and Peralta.  Holguin parks have one glaring detail in every project.

They stand highest in relation to the surrounding street level; therefore, all are accessed through several levels of stairs.  Since the beginning of Spanish rule on the island of Cuba, the area now forms the city of Holguin and was inhabited by the Spanish, owing its name to the surname of one of the men of Diego Velazquez: Garcia de Holguin.

In the beginning, the area belonged to the jurisdiction of Bayamo. On January 18th 1752 they established a council and gave it the title of city.
