Cuba Transport

Transportation in Cuba has deteriorated due to aging and breaking of old Cuba Transportways and the difficulty of acquiring them by the new economic, commercial and financial district of the United States and the economic crisis that the country has been subject to.  Within cities it is still common to see a car from the late 50s.

In the decades of 1970 and 1980 vehicles were imported from socialist countries and there remain very popular brands such as Lada, Volga and Moskvitch.  To distribute them to users is establishing a mechanism of allocation priorities, giving priority to the people most identified with the revolutionary process.
Since the 90s they have begun to import modern European and Asian cars. Currently it is common to find vehicles for European brands such as Peugeot, Citroen and Mercedes-Benz.  As well as from Asian cars like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Kia, but the vast majority are state owned (Taxi, car rental for tourism or autos Business).  2000 saw the arrival on the island china car manufacturing, with brands such as Chery.
For public transport, rail is still used by trains after more than 20 years but the country is reaching new teams for China and Iran. There are train services from Havana to Guantanamo throughout the entire country. The state company in charge of the rail network is FCC (Ferry and Cuba).

Cuba aircraft varies with the distance and despite being relatively cheap, it is less used. Airlines Cubana de Aviacion, Aerogaviota, Aerocaribbean, varadero Aero and Aero Taxi.   Bus transportation is used, there are 2 state-owned enterprises in charge of this activity: Viazul, which operates in Cuban convertible peso (CUC) and Astro operating Cuban Peso (CUP).  Both companies have modern buses by Mercedes-Benz and Yutong.

In the district urban transport is used in other ways. Rigid buses can be seen in major cities while the articulated buses are mainly in Havana. The popular “Camels” were phasing out but you can still see them doing half routes, such the route Jaguey Grande – Matanzas. To travel between towns minibuses are used.  For everyday use bicycle taxis are used around Cuba. There are carts drawn by horses that make utilities and rent (not shown in Havana).
