To avoid the shortcomings of the electricity produced in the thermoelectric plants, where the fuel is refined, the Cuban government has invested in the repair of these generators.

This also occurs in Santiago de Cuba, where toxic emissions are controlled.  They’ve also made a significant investment in building site diesel generators and fuel oil spread across the country. Almost completely eliminating the bitter power of the ’90s.

The energy saving program known as the Cuban “Energy Revolution” sold to the family kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, electric pressure cookers, electric stoves, etc. to avoid the large consumption of natural gases and other fuels like kerosene.

As part of this program they also managed utility poles and high voltage cables for the distribution of electricity, new generators were installed.  This program made Cuba the first country in the world to replace incandescent light bulbs by energy saving light bulbs, followed by countries such as Australia, Venezuela and Argentina.

It was emphasized that every school had to have a TV, video and computers. For electricity supply they use PV.  This way of obtaining energy lies in the storage of solar radiation and its conversion into electricity. This is carried out in solar panels, which have become very common especially in the region of Guantanamo.

Cuba has three large wind farms as an alternative production of energy. One of them is in the Isle of Youth, with the wind farm The Carraneros.  In central Cuba, in Ciego de Avila, another smaller park is used.
Currently the most recognized of several parks, the Gibara Holguin, has an enormous capacity. They have already started to produce their first Megawatts.  In addition to the first wind farm of Gibara, a second Wind Farm has began to be built.
